Motorcycle route planner: plan your ride stop by stop

Clump’s motorcycle route planner is a ride planner with stops, built for group trips. Stops, dwell times, your group’s pace and fuel range come together in one plan, and when the ride starts the plan turns straight into turn-by-turn navigation.

How does the motorcycle route planner work?

When you create a ride you pick a start point, stops along the way and a destination. Give each stop a type and a dwell time. Starting from your departure time, the planner works out when you will reach each stop and when you will leave it. The departure time defaults to the next full hour.

That lets you give the group a clear schedule, such as "Meet at eight, breakfast at ten, heading home by three". Once the plan is saved, everyone in the group sees the same stops and the same times.

When the ride starts, the same plan becomes your motorcycle navigation. The live ride screen follows the stops in order, announces each arrival and guides you to the next stop.

Plan a route step by step and add stops

  1. Pick the start and destination on the map or by search.
  2. Add stops and give each one a type: meeting point, fuel, break, food, regroup or viewpoint.
  3. Enter a dwell time for each stop.
  4. Choose a route style (fast, balanced or curvy) and your group’s pace.
  5. Enter a departure time and let the planner calculate arrival times.
  6. Save the plan and share the join code with your group.

Fast, balanced or curvy routes

There are three route styles. Fast picks the quickest route. Balanced chooses among routes that take at most 15 percent longer than the fastest one. Curvy favors the twistiest of the routes found. You can also avoid toll roads and motorways, each with its own switch.

If more than one route is found, the alternatives appear on the map in different colors and you pick the one you want.

Your group’s pace and fuel range

A group moves more slowly than a solo rider, so the planner applies a pace factor to the map’s travel time. Relaxed multiplies it by 1.30 and suits large groups or groups with newer riders. Normal multiplies it by 1.15 and fits most group rides. Fast uses the map time as it is.

Enter your group’s shortest range: how far the bike with the smallest tank can go on a full tank. The default is 180 km and it can be set between 50 and 1,000 km. If a section without a fuel stop is longer than 0.9 times that range, you get a warning. A break reminder also flags stretches of riding longer than 90, 120 or 150 minutes without a break; the default is 120 minutes.

  • Fuel, café, food, viewpoint and motorcycle service suggestions appear along the route.
  • Tap a suggestion to add it to the route as a stop.
  • The same settings hold the live ride "fell behind" threshold (3 km by default).

Weather along the route and rain on route alerts

The plan shows the weather along the route, so you can see before you leave where rain is likely. During the ride, if rain is likely on the next half hour of the route, you get an alert: "Put on rain gear at the next stop."

When plans change on the road

If you decide to skip a planned stop, the ride owner or their stand-in can skip it for everyone. Guidance moves on to the next stop for all riders at once. A stop skipped by mistake can be restored. Planned break stops also feed the group break: when the group reaches the stop, the break can start on its own.

From ride plan to motorcycle navigation

The route you plan is more than a schedule. When the ride starts, Clump’s navigation follows it turn by turn. The maneuver card shows the next turn, voice guidance can read every turn if you like, and each arrival is announced. If you leave the route, the app works out a way back to it.

Because everyone in the group navigates the same route, nobody wanders off onto a different road. When the ride owner skips a stop, guidance moves on to the next stop for everyone at once. Group navigation stays far more consistent than each rider running a separate navigation app on their own phone.

The arrival estimate on the live ride screen is based on where you actually are. Compare it with the planned time to see whether the group is running behind or ahead of schedule.

Who is the motorcycle route planner for?

A motorcycle route planner isn’t only for long tours. Even on a short evening ride, setting the meeting point, a coffee stop and a time to head home makes things easier, and with the motorcycle route planner in Clump it takes a few minutes.

It is built for club organizers running tours, groups of friends planning a weekend breakfast ride and crews setting off on multi-day trips. When everyone knows the stop times in advance and fuel and breaks are worked out beforehand, a group ride runs much more smoothly.

Frequently asked questions

How do you plan breaks on a motorcycle trip?

Add break stops in the route planner and give each a dwell time; the planner works out when you arrive at and leave every stop. The break reminder flags stretches longer than 90, 120 or 150 minutes without a stop. During the ride, the group break starts on its own when most of the group reaches the break stop, and everyone sees the same countdown.

How do I plan fuel stops for a group motorcycle trip?

Enter your group’s shortest fuel range in the route planner; the default is 180 km. If a section without a fuel stop is longer than 0.9 times that range, you get a warning. Tap a fuel suggestion along the route to add it as a stop.

How do I plan a curvy motorcycle route?

Set the route style to "Curvy" in the route planner. The planner then favors the twistiest of the routes it finds. You can also switch on avoiding toll roads and motorways.

How are arrival times worked out for a group?

The planner applies a pace factor to the map’s travel time. Relaxed multiplies it by 1.30 and Normal by 1.15, while Fast uses the map time as it is. Dwell times at each stop are added on top.

Can I skip a stop during the ride?

Yes. The ride owner or their stand-in can skip a planned stop for everyone. Guidance moves on to the next stop for all riders at once, and the group hears an announcement. A stop skipped by mistake can be restored.

How do rain alerts work?

During the ride the weather on the next half hour of your route is checked. If rain is likely, you get a "Put on rain gear at the next stop." alert. The route plan also shows the weather along the route.
