A live group map and turn-by-turn navigation for your motorcycle group
Clump’s live group map shows where every rider in your group is on a single map. Turn-by-turn navigation, the next stop, your arrival estimate and the remaining distance sit on the same screen.
How does the live group map work?
When the ride owner starts the ride, each rider’s location starts streaming to the group. Every rider appears on the map with their profile photo and name. A green ring lights up around whoever is talking, so you can tell who is speaking on the voice channel just by glancing at the map.
The panel at the bottom shows the next stop, the estimated arrival time there and the distance left. Pull it up to open the rider list. It shows who is connected and how far ahead of or behind you each rider is, for example "1.2 km ahead".
That is the difference between motorcycle group navigation and a solo motorcycle GPS app. Clump doesn’t just follow your own route; it works out how the whole group is spread along it, so the distance between the front and the back of the group is always on screen.
Turn-by-turn navigation with voice guidance
The maneuver card at the top of the live group map shows the next turn and the distance to it. The route is drawn in two colors, so the part you have already ridden looks different from the part ahead. The navigation follows your planned stops in order and, once you reach one, guides you on to the next.
Voice guidance has three modes: All, Alerts only and Off. In All mode you hear maneuver prompts such as "In 300 meters, turn right, then enter the roundabout". Alerts only, the default, skips maneuver prompts but still speaks off-route, arrival and group alerts. Voice guidance is a separate setting from the group’s voice channel.
- If you leave the route you hear "You left the route. Guiding you back." and the app calculates a way back.
- When you rejoin the route you hear "You are back on the route."
- Arrivals at stops and at the destination are announced, and so is a stop the ride owner skips for everyone.
- Prompts are spoken in English or Turkish, following the app language.
Tracking the group’s spread and the rider left behind alert
The spread strip lines up the whole group along the route on a single bar: the Captain at the front, the Sweep at the back. You can see how stretched out the group is without studying the map.
When the gap between the front rider and the last rider exceeds a set threshold, a "someone fell behind" alert goes out. The threshold is 3 km by default and can be set between 0.5 km and 20 km when you plan the route. Keep it low for a short ride through town and higher for a long motorway leg.
- The alert goes to the Captain and the Sweep, or to the ride owner if there is no Captain.
- A separate alert tells you when a rider loses connection.
- The Sweep sees a status such as "You’re at the back" or "Ali is 900 m behind you".
A calm screen while riding, plus Lock Screen and CarPlay
Once you pass roughly 10 km/h, secondary actions such as sharing are locked and only what you need for riding stays on screen. The main buttons are large enough to press with gloves on. The lock is there to keep your attention on the road.
You don’t need to unlock the phone to check on the ride. The Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island show the next maneuver, the next stop, the arrival estimate, how many riders are connected and, during a break, when it ends. Connect to a CarPlay display and the same map and navigation appear there.
How to start a live ride
- Create a ride in the route planner with a start, stops along the way and a destination.
- Share the ride’s 6-character join code or its QR code with your group.
- Riders tap "Join Ride" in the Rides tab and enter the code.
- When it’s time to leave, start the ride; everyone appears on the live map.
- Set location access to "Always" so your position keeps updating with the phone in your pocket.
Who is the live group map for?
The live group map gets more useful as the group grows. In a convoy of ten or more riders, the live group map lets the Captain see how stretched out the group is while the Sweep sees who is last.
A group of three friends heading out for a Sunday breakfast ride uses the same screen as a large club tour, such as the BMW Motorrad F-R Series GS Group with dozens of members. The bigger the group, the more useful it is to see everyone on one screen.
For anyone who likes to ride with friends, Clump works as a convoy tracker. Group location tracking stays on for the whole ride, so on a motorcycle group ride you always see who is where, who is connected and how far the convoy has stretched.
Live location sharing matters most where riders lose sight of each other: leaving a city, at traffic lights and on mountain roads. Nobody has to call and ask "Where are you?"; if someone has dropped back, the strip and the alert already show it.
Frequently asked questions
How do you use navigation on a motorcycle?
Plan the route before you set off, mount the phone securely and turn on voice navigation. Clump reads the directions through your helmet intercom, so a quick glance is enough to check the next maneuver. Above roughly 10 km/h secondary actions are locked, and a CarPlay-enabled motorcycle display shows the map bigger.
Does Clump have turn-by-turn voice navigation?
Yes. The live ride screen follows your planned route turn by turn and shows the next maneuver. Voice guidance has three modes: All, Alerts only (the default) and Off. In All mode you also hear maneuver prompts such as "In 300 meters, turn right".
What happens if I leave the route?
The app announces "You left the route. Guiding you back." and calculates a way back to your planned route. Once you rejoin it you hear "You are back on the route." and navigation carries on from there.
How do you notice a rider left behind on a group ride?
The spread strip on the live ride screen shows the front and back of the group on one line. When the gap between the first and last rider exceeds the threshold, the Captain and the Sweep get a "someone fell behind" alert. The threshold is 3 km by default and can be set between 0.5 and 20 km when planning the route.
Why does the app need "Always" location access?
So the group can see you, navigation keeps working and the family link updates while the phone is in your pocket or the screen is off. With "While Using the App", your location stops updating when the screen turns off. You can check it in the Location row in the app’s Settings.
Do the voice channel and live map need internet?
Yes. Location sharing and the voice channel run on mobile data. Where there is no coverage, audio pauses and your location stops updating; both resume when you are back in coverage.
