CarPlay motorcycle navigation with your group map

Connect to a CarPlay-enabled motorcycle display or car screen and Clump moves your group ride onto it. The map, your group’s live positions, turn-by-turn navigation and the break countdown are visible without touching the phone. That puts CarPlay motorcycle navigation at the centre of your group ride.

What does CarPlay motorcycle navigation show?

Clump is a CarPlay navigation app. Riders who use CarPlay on their motorcycle see the same motorcycle navigation for iPhone directly on the display.

The CarPlay ride map uses the same data as the live ride screen on your phone. The group’s positions, the route and the next maneuver are drawn on the display. A CarPlay screen on a motorcycle is bigger than a phone and easier to read on the handlebars, which makes navigation easier to follow.

  • The ride map and your group’s live positions.
  • The next maneuver and turn-by-turn navigation.
  • The group strip: who is ahead and who is behind.
  • The speed camera layer and alerts (where the feature is available).

Quick messages, road reports and SOS in one tap

Send ready-made quick messages from the CarPlay menu with one tap: Need fuel, Break, Wait, Follow me and Hazard. You can also mark a road hazard from there as a road report.

SOS can be sent from the CarPlay display too. If your own SOS is active, the first option in the menu is to cancel it, so a mistaken alert comes down quickly.

Group breaks and alerts on CarPlay

When a group break starts, navigation pauses and the display shows something like "Break · Departure 13:40 · 12 min". You get an alert 5 minutes before departure and again when it’s time to go. Group alerts such as "someone fell behind" also appear on the display.

How to use CarPlay motorcycle navigation

  1. Connect your iPhone to a CarPlay-enabled display.
  2. Open Clump on the CarPlay screen.
  3. Start the ride on your phone; the map and navigation move to the display.
  4. Use the CarPlay menu for quick messages, road reports and SOS.

Voice navigation on CarPlay

Voice navigation prompts are spoken while you’re connected to CarPlay and follow CarPlay’s audio preferences. If the system asks for short prompts, only the first short sentence is spoken. If prompts are off, or the car is playing other audio, nothing is spoken and on-screen guidance carries on.

The voice guidance mode you choose on the phone (All, Alerts only or Off) also applies on CarPlay, so navigation prompts behave the same on the phone and on the display.

Phone, Lock Screen and CarPlay together

The CarPlay display mirrors the ride on your phone: you start the ride on the phone and the display shows the same ride.

The biggest benefit of CarPlay motorcycle navigation is seeing the map on a larger screen, closer to your line of sight. The group map, the next turn and the break countdown can all be read at a glance.

How CarPlay navigation helps a riding group

On a group ride your attention is split between the road and the group. The group strip on the CarPlay display shows where the riders behind you are without checking your mirrors. When a "someone fell behind" alert comes up, you see it on the display and can send a "Wait" message with one tap.

That’s especially handy for the Captain, who can follow the route on the big screen and see how stretched out the group is in the same place. The Sweep, riding at the back, can follow everyone ahead on the same map.

Who is the motorcycle CarPlay app for?

Riders whose motorcycle has a CarPlay display, or who have fitted a CarPlay screen to the handlebars. If you keep your phone in a tank bag or pocket and want the map on a bigger screen, you can use CarPlay motorcycle navigation together with your group ride.

It also works in CarPlay-enabled cars. A support vehicle following the group can see where the riders are and what the next stop is on the car display.

Clump runs on CarPlay as a navigation app, so it sits alongside the map apps on the CarPlay home screen and opens with one tap during a ride. Riders follow the group and the route on the same screen without switching to a separate motorcycle GPS app.
