Motorcycle intercom app: talk to your whole group, whatever intercom you use
Clump’s voice channel is a phone-based motorcycle intercom app. When you join a ride you connect to the group’s channel and talk through your helmet intercom or headphones, so a motorcycle voice group ride needs no extra device.
How does the voice channel work?
Clump is not an intercom device. It is a motorcycle intercom app that uses the intercom or headphones you already have. As long as your intercom is paired with your phone over Bluetooth, your voice travels from the phone to the group’s channel. That means riders in the group don’t need the same brand or model of intercom.
The voice channel behaves like a phone call. It shows on the Lock Screen, and you can adjust or mute it with the system controls. The conversation carries on with the app in the background or the screen off.
That makes Clump a phone-based motorcycle intercom app. Rider voice chat needs no extra hardware, helmet intercoms talk to each other through the phones, and push to talk for riders is built in.
Audio travels over mobile data, so you can talk to your group wherever there is coverage. In a valley or tunnel with no signal, audio pauses until the connection returns.
How does a voice group ride work?
On a motorcycle voice group ride, everyone who joins the ride is in the same voice room. The room opens by itself as soon as another rider in the group is online. When you ride alone, you are not connected to the voice room, so the microphone stays off and your music keeps playing. When everyone leaves, the room closes after a minute.
To talk, just pair your helmet intercom or headphones with your phone over Bluetooth; the intercom brand doesn’t matter. With push to talk you speak only while you hold the button; with an open mic the group hears you as soon as you speak.
To turn the audio off, tap "Leave voice call" in the ride panel; navigation and location sharing carry on. To come back, tap "Join voice call".
Push to talk or open mic
Pick the mode that suits how your group talks. In large groups, push to talk keeps the channel calm. In small, chatty groups, an open mic feels more like a normal conversation.
- Open mic: the group hears you as soon as you speak, and you can mute whenever you like.
- Push to talk: you are only heard while you hold the button.
- Your mic state is clear at a glance: on, muted or talking.
Who is talking, and what happens during a break?
A green ring lights up around the speaking rider’s pin on the map and their photo in the rider list. If you can’t place a voice, a glance at the map tells you.
Turn on "Mute my mic during breaks" and your mic switches off automatically when a group break starts, while the channel itself stays open. Turn your mic back on when the break ends. Voice navigation prompts are a separate setting from group audio, so you can choose to hear only alerts.
Motorcycle intercom app vs. intercom pairing
Helmet intercoms usually connect riders to each other directly over a wireless link. That link depends on the intercom brand, the model and the distance between riders. Pairing different brands can be tricky, and the connection can drop as a group stretches out.
With Clump’s voice channel, each rider’s intercom only connects to their own phone. Audio goes from the phone to the group over mobile data. There’s no need to pair riders one by one; everyone who joins the ride is on the same channel. Even with miles between the front and the back of the group, the conversation carries on as long as there is mobile data.
You can keep using your intercom’s own pairing too. The voice channel gives riders who can’t pair their intercoms, or who lose the link on a long ride, another way to stay in touch.
How the voice channel and voice navigation work together
Group conversation and navigation prompts come through the same headset, but they are separate settings. Set voice navigation to All, Alerts only or Off. If you don’t want turn prompts cutting into the conversation, choose Alerts only; off-route, arrival and "someone fell behind" alerts are still spoken.
Quick messages, SOS and role requests also arrive as spoken announcements, so you hear what’s happening in the group without looking at the screen.
How to join the voice channel
- Pair your helmet intercom or headphones with your phone over Bluetooth.
- Join the group’s ride with the join code or QR code.
- Use the mic button on the ride screen for open mic or push to talk.
- If talking is hard, send a ready-made quick message from the panel with one tap.
Who is this motorcycle intercom app for?
Using a motorcycle intercom app is often easier than waiting for everyone to buy matching hardware. Clump connects everyone who joins the ride to the same conversation automatically.
The voice channel suits friends with different intercom brands, riders who use headphones instead of an intercom, and long groups where a Bluetooth mesh runs out of range. Even when riders are far apart, the channel keeps working as long as there is mobile data.
For moments when talking isn’t practical there are quick messages: Need fuel, Break, Wait, Follow me and Hazard. Each one reaches everyone in the group as a card and a spoken announcement.
Frequently asked questions
