A group break ends at the same time for everyone

A Clump group break is a timed break started by whoever has ride authority. Everyone sees the same departure time and the same countdown, so nobody has to ask "When are we leaving?".

How does a group break start?

A break can start in three ways. Most often someone starts it by hand. If the route plan includes a break stop, the break can also start on its own. At an unplanned stop, the app never starts a break by itself; it only makes a suggestion.

  • By hand: whoever has ride authority taps "Start a break" and picks a length. Presets are 10, 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes; a break can last from 5 minutes to 4 hours.
  • At a planned stop: the break starts on its own when most of the group has arrived, and can be cancelled in its first 20 seconds.
  • At an unplanned stop: if the group stays put for 5 minutes, the person in charge only gets a "Take a break?" suggestion.

What does everyone see during the break?

The ride screen shows a card such as "Break · Ağva Coffee Stop" and a countdown to the departure time. The same countdown appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Riders connected to CarPlay see "Break · Departure 13:40 · 12 min" on the display.

So while you grab a coffee or fill up, there’s no need to unlock your phone. A look at the Lock Screen is enough.

When it’s time to go

  1. Everyone gets a reminder 5 minutes before the departure time.
  2. When the time is up, a "Time to go" announcement plays.
  3. The person in charge can extend the break by 5 or 15 minutes, or end it early.
  4. If the time runs over, the screen shows "Time to go has passed".

Your mic and the voice channel during a break

Riders who turn on "Mute my mic during breaks" have their mic switched off automatically when the break starts. The voice channel stays open, so you still hear announcements and the group. Private conversations at the café don’t go out to the group by accident.

Tips for planning breaks on a group ride

On a long group ride, planning breaks ahead makes the day easier. The route planner’s break reminder flags stretches longer than 90, 120 or 150 minutes without a stop. Combining fuel stops with breaks cuts the group’s total time standing still.

For larger groups, breaks shorter than 15 minutes rarely work out. Allowing 20 to 30 minutes gives everyone time to refuel, rest and regroup. Clump’s countdown makes that time visible to everyone.

How to start a group break

  1. Tap "Start a break" in the ride panel.
  2. Pick one of the preset lengths or set your own.
  3. Start the break; a break card and countdown appear on every rider’s screen.
  4. If needed, extend the break by 5 or 15 minutes or end it early.

The group map, family link and CarPlay during a break

When a break starts, navigation pauses but the motorcycle group’s live locations keep being shared. You can see on the map how far away a rider who is late to the stop is. The break’s end time also shows in the Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

Family members with your tracking link open can see you are on a break too. The status on the tracking page changes to "on a break" with the departure time next to it. Riders connected to CarPlay follow the countdown on the display.

How group breaks tie in with the ride plan

Adding a break stop to the route plan means planning the group break in advance. Because every stop in the planner has a dwell time, everyone knows from the start when the group will reach the break stop and when it will leave. During the ride, the break starts on its own once most of the group arrives there.

The ride owner doesn’t have to tap "Start a break" at every stop. At an unplanned stop the decision stays with the person in charge: after 5 minutes standing still, the app only asks "Take a break?".

Who is the group break for?

Any group that scatters at a stop and takes a while to get going again. On club tours with dozens of riders, having the departure time on everyone’s phone at once is what gets the group back on the road on time.
