With the family tracking link, your family follows your ride live

The family tracking link is the simplest way to share your live location with family while you ride. They open the link in a browser and follow your trip, with no account and no app to install.

How does the family tracking link work?

During a ride, tap "Share my live location" in the ride panel and Clump creates a link for that ride. Send it by WhatsApp, SMS or any other app. Whoever opens it sees a tracking page in the browser on their phone or computer.

The family tracking link is made for every rider who wants to share their ride with family or let someone track their ride. Anyone who taps the link opens the page without downloading anything.

The page updates your location live. Your family can see where you are, how much of the route you have covered, your next stop and your estimated arrival time. Instead of calling to ask where you are, they just check the page.

How to share your live location link

  1. Tap "Share my live location" in the ride panel.
  2. Choose a privacy zone: 500 m, 1 km, 2 km or off. The default is 1 km.
  3. Choose whether to show your speed on the tracking page.
  4. Send the link to your family by WhatsApp or SMS.

What does your family see?

  • Your live location, the route covered and still ahead, the next stop, your arrival estimate and the distance left.
  • Your status: riding, stopped, on a break (with the departure time), no signal or arrived.
  • Your speed (unless you hide it), the last update time, how many riders are in the group and your phone’s battery level.

How is your location protected?

Your position is hidden around the start of the route, the destination and your first location of the ride, and the route line is cut there too. That way the tracking page doesn’t reveal where you live or work. You set the radius of this privacy zone when you share the link.

The page shows your initials instead of your profile photo, and only the first word of your name. Other riders in the group never appear; your family only sees you. The page talks only to clumpapp.com.

How long does the link stay open?

Every ride gets a new link. It is valid for at most 24 hours and closes on its own 30 minutes after the ride ends. You can stop sharing or renew the link at any time.

The family page in an emergency

If you send an SOS during the ride, a red alert appears on the family tracking page. Your family can open your location in their own maps app with one tap. SOS does not call emergency services, so if help is needed they should call the local emergency number themselves.

Which devices can open the tracking page?

The tracking page is an ordinary web page. iPhone, Android phone, tablet or computer, it opens on any device with an up-to-date browser. Your family doesn’t need a Clump account, a login or an app.

While the page is open, your location updates on its own. When you ride through an area with no coverage, the page shows a "no signal" status and the last update time, and your location starts updating again when the connection returns. Your family can tell whether something is wrong or you are simply out of coverage.

When does live location sharing start and stop?

Live location sharing only starts when you create the link, and it only runs during the ride. The link closes on its own 30 minutes after the ride ends, and it never stays open longer than 24 hours, however long the ride.

You decide who gets the link. Anyone who receives it can pass it on, so when you no longer want to share, just stop or renew the link. Renewing it stops the old link working right away, and you’ll need to send the new one again.

Who is the family tracking link for?

Each family tracking link is created for a single ride and closes with it, so the family tracking link never turns into permanent location sharing.

Any rider heading out on a long trip, coming home late at night or simply wanting family to feel at ease while they ride. Your partner, parents or kids don’t have to download anything; tapping the link is enough.

Frequently asked questions

How can my family track me while I ride?

Create a link with "Share my live location" in the ride panel and send it by WhatsApp or SMS. Your family opens it in a browser and sees your location, arrival estimate and status (riding, on a break, arrived) live.

Does my family need to install an app to see my location?

No. The link opens in the browser on any phone or computer. Your family doesn’t need an account or an app.

Does the tracking link show where I live?

No. Your position is hidden around the route start, the destination and your first location of the ride, and the route line is cut there too. The privacy zone radius is 1 km by default; choose 500 m, 2 km or off when sharing.

How long does the family link stay open?

Can I hide my speed on the tracking page?

Yes. When you share the link you can choose not to show your speed. Your family still sees your location, status and arrival estimate; only the speed is hidden.
